Dave Daker's Corkscrew Story

I got interested in corkscrews after  reading an article about the “Christian Brothers Winery” in a wine magazine. This would have been in late 1979 or early 1980. The story mentioned that the Cellar Master, Brother Timothy, had a collection of around 1400 corkscrews.

I had been interested in wine for a number of years but had never heard of anybody collecting corkscrews and had no idea of how to find any.

In 1980 I went to England to visit an aunt and mentioned my interest in looking for old corkscrews. My aunt opened a kitchen drawer and pulled out a four-finger pull corkscrew  and said “like this?”.
